A WORD ABOUT TORTILLAS
Tortillas are baked
using the same ingredients as our standard "daily bread."
Tortillas are round and flat, convenient to fold or roll
and great for "finger eating." Their calories per
ounce are approximately the same as the calories per ounce
in bread. Because pressed flour tortillas have a sealed
surface, they do not absorb juices; consequently, they do
not get soggy like regular bread.
HEATING & FREEZING TORTILLAS
Tortillas are best
when heated and should be rolled and folded when warm and
pliable to prevent cracking. Corn and flour tortillas
may be heated on a hot griddle for a few seconds per side,
by covering them with a damp towel and heating them in a
microwave oven for 10-20 seconds, or by wrapping them in
foil and placing them in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for
about 15 minutes.
Both corn and flour tortillas can be frozen; however, freezing
can cause the tortillas to dry out.
OUR CRUMBLE TEST
As shown in the pictures to the
right, a heated MexAmerica flour tortilla can be crumbled
into a ball and returned to its original shape without falling
apart.
